Model 832 – Resistance and Static Dissipation Electrodes (SAE J1645 & ESD Association Test Methods)
Overview:
The Model 832 Resistance / Dissipation Electrodes are supplied in pairs to measure point-to-point resistance, resistance- to-ground and static dissipation. The electrode consists of a 0.25″ (6mm) square and a 0.25 x 0.125″ (6 x 3mm) rectangular conductive elastomer pads with volume resistivity of 0.08 Ohm-cm and Shore-A hardness of 65 Durometer. The pads are mounted to stainless steel electrodes mounted to an insulated clamp that exerts approx. 10 pounds (4.5kg) of contact pressure.
Standard 0.162″ banana jacks are located at the end of each handle. The RED jack connects to the 0.25″ sq. electrode and the BLACK jack connects to the 0..25 x 0.125″ rectangular electrode. 30″ (76cm) long red and black cables, terminated with standard 0.162″ banana plugs, are supplied with each pair of Electrodes. These cables have high insulation resistance to reduce secondary leakage paths to each other or to ground during measurement. The surface resistance of flat material and the outside surface of tubing is normally measured using the 0.25″ sq. pad. To measure the inside surface resistance of tubing the 0.25×0.125″ pad is used. Volume resistance requires both pads. However, when calculating volume resistivity the area of the smaller pad, 0.031 in2 (0.18cm2) divided by the thickness of the material in cm is used.
